If immersion is more your thing, you can explore the various diving locations among the lakes of the Salzkammergut. After a busy day in the water, you'll find any number of cafes and waterside restaurants where you can enjoy a relaxed bite to eat and see out a gloriously sunny day.

In addition to water sports, the Salzkammergut region offers breathtaking mountain landscapes – and the best way to explore them is with your hiking boots on. Explore the many happy places in the region or enjoy a sunset hike up the Schoberstein – they say the best view of the surrounding lakes is from the top of this peak. If you prefer your excitement on the vertical or right up in the high mountains, strenuous fixed-rope climbing routes or alpine tours on the Dachstein glacier may be more your thing.

The region is home to a wide variety of mountain bike routes through spectacular landscapes, ranging from easy to challenging. As with the hiking options, the lake district's flatter landscapes offer easier routes while the three-day Dachstein circuit calls for serious fitness and determination. Do you prefer thinner wheels?
